First look at the cover of our forthcoming destination guide, Luoyang: In Search of an Ancient Capital, which is out in May. I don’t think I’ve felt this excited about a new book for a long time. Luoyang’s always been a kind of ‘forgotten capital’, overshadowed in the ancient capital stakes by Xian (Chang’an). A lowly prefectural city in Henan, in China’s hierarchical political system it has lacked the resources to uncover its legacy. Beneath the surface though, recent archaeological finds have really started to bring ancient Luoyang to the light.  I hope that our book can somehow help to revive Luoyang’s reputation as one of the centres of the ancient Chinese world.
